Job summary

A technology solutions company is seeking an Assistant to the Product Development Support Engineer. The candidate will provide technical support, diagnose product issues, and collaborate on training and testing. Applicants should have a Grade 12 or N3 in electrical engineering and be proficient in MS programs. Experience as an Engineering Technician is preferred. This role is based in Gauteng, South Africa.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an Engineering Technician or similar role.
  • Basic technical knowledge in aftermarket devices is an added advantage.
  • Basic understanding of electronics is an added advantage.

Job Advert Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Assistant to the Product Development Support Engineer to join our dynamic team.

The ideal candidate will play a key role in assisting the team in providing technical support to our internal customers, ensuring smooth operation of our products.

The Assistant will work closely with all team members within the Product Development Department to identify and resolve technical issues, contribute to product improvement, and deliver exceptional customer service.

Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 or N3 in electrical engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience as an Engineering Technician or similar role.
  • Basic technical knowledge in aftermarket devices e.g., dash cameras, fatigue monitoring systems, etc. as an added advantage.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team and independently.
  • Excellent Time Management skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficient in all MS programs e.g. Word, Excel, etc.
  • Innovative in nature.
  • Willingness to learn and absorb new systems quickly.
  • Basic understanding of Optix hardware and software solutions is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of electronics is an added advantage.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in providing technical support to internal customers via email, phone, and MS Teams.
  • Assisting with the diagnosis and troubleshooting of technical issues related to our products.
  • Collaborate with the product development team to elevate and resolve complex issues.
  • Assist with conducting product training sessions and department functions for internal teams and new employees.
  • Participate in the testing of new product releases to identify potential issues.
  • Data gathering for product comparison purposes.
  • Data cleaning of current running POC's and Trails.
  • Device testing – hardware and software.
  • Performance monitoring of current POC's and Trails.
  • Assisting in vehicle incident investigations.
  • Assisting in the design and maintenance of new / current test jigs.
  • Helping improve our current systems.
  • Conducting research to stay on top of market trends.
