Description

We have an opportunity for a Fire Engineer to join the Mission Critical Facilities (MCF) / Industry Advisory Groups (AGs) in the Johannesburg / Cape Town / Umhlanga offices of Atana.

Requirements
Desired Qualifications and Professional Registration
  • Relevant Fire Engineering qualification / certification
  • Membership / eligibility to be member of professional body i.e. IFE or ECSA
  • 5 years (mid-level) / 10 years (senior) relevant fire engineering working experience
  • Experience working on Data Centers / Industrial building facilities is advantageous
  • Experience with Revit and integrated design
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Fire protection engineering design including sprinkler protection systems fire detection & voice alarm systems smoke ventilation systems fire hydrants & fire hose reels reticulation and fire signage.
  • Liaison with local authorities including council submissions and fire clearance certificates.
  • Excellent knowledge of SANS 10400 Part T and experienced in rational fire designs.
  • Lead a fire protection engineering team; provide technical training and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Technical quality enforcement including technical design reviews and verifications.
  • Interfacing of designs with other disciplines e.g. structural architectural mechanical & electrical.
  • Handling full scope of fire consulting services on projects from concept to close-out.
  • Implementing and ensuring of compliance to company quality management system.
  • Use of international and local design standards and codes of practice including SANS BS ASIB etc.
  • Liaison with clients and other consultants.
  • Report to Lead Fire Engineer in MCF / Industry AG on fire team quality and performance metrics.
  • Engineering the design in project teams. Specific installations such as sprinkler fire detection smoke heat extraction or gas extinguishing installation.
  • Develop diagrams of the installation and coordinate with other disciplines for the initial space reservations.
  • Modelling the installation in 3D Revit / BIM based on diagrams and coordinated space reservations under your supervision. Implement your knowledge based on functionality mountability accessibility and maintainability into the model to ensure that the contractor can build it according to our model without revising it.
