A major energy provider in Gauteng is seeking a qualified Materials / Corrosion Engineer to ensure integrity and reliability of materials in industrial systems. The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of experience in the oil and gas sector, a strong background in materials selection, failure analysis, and corrosion mechanisms, along with excellent leadership and communication skills. This full-time role offers the opportunity to contribute to critical engineering decisions and enhance material performance.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in Materials/Corrosion Engineering, preferably in the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Certifications in API 571/ 579/580/581 & NACE CP Level II/III are advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication methods, welding processes, and corrosion mitigation methods.

Responsibilities

Job Description

Reporting to the Lead, Fixed Equipment Integrity, the Materials / Corrosion Engineer leads efforts to ensure the integrity, reliability, and longevity of materials used in industrial systems their knowledge in the Bussiness Unit. This role involves advanced analysis of material performance, corrosion mechanisms, and mitigation strategies. The materials/corrosion engineer commonly acts as a consulting resource to others across business unit. As they grow in expertise, they increasingly participate in an informal network of their peers in Materials & Corrosion. They become familiar with the senior engineers in the company and consult & plan with them regularly.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Materials Selection & Evaluation
  • Recommend suitable materials for specific applications based on mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties.
  • Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations, using Company Materials Labs or third-party labs
  • Applies his/her knowledge to all Facility Engineering equipment, such as Refinery Fixed Equipment and Piping Systems
  • Welding design review and problem solving
  • Equipment repair, including materials properties input for fitness for service
  • Materials & corrosion risk-based inspection analysis
  • Analysis and inspection of Refractories and Advice on Repair Strategies
  • Provides SME advice on Companies Welding and Refractory Heat treatment Requirements to Third parties
  • Provides SME advice on Coatings as per Company requirements
  • Evaluates Materials requirements as per MOC (Management of Change) requirements for both Capital and Maintenance Projects
  • Advice on Design and implementation of corrosion protection systems (e.g., cathodic protection, coatings).
  • Develop corrosion monitoring programs and interpret data (e.g. IOW development and settings)
  • Provides Technical Leadership
  • Provide expert guidance to multidisciplinary teams on materials and corrosion issues.
  • Use industry best practices and Networking to improve material performance and reduce lifecycle costs.
  • Keep abreast and advice Company of Best Practices and Standards
  • Ensure adherence to international standards (e.g., NACE, ASTM, ISO, API).
  • Provide support during company audits, certifications, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide materials/corrosion SME support for Capital and Maintenance Project Initiatives
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and vendor relationships related to materials engineering. Process and systems best practise compliance and guidance.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters in Material Science / BSc in Materials Engineering / Metallurgy or B-Eng

Experience

  • 8+ Experience in Materials/Corrosion Engineering preferably in the Oil and Gas industry

Certifications

  • API 571/ 579/580/581 & NACE CP Level II/III Advantageous

We are seeking a Quality Control Supervisor (QC Supervisor) to join our company. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring quality standards are consistently upheld, supervising teams on the floor, and maintaining compliance with company policies and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily quality control operations and supervise employees on the lines.
