Recruitpro Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a leading South African engineering company that builds critical systems for defence and aerospace. A Software Engineer will join the Application Software team in Somerset West, Western Cape, developing operator-facing software for C2 and ISR within a formal software development environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering (BSc / BSc Eng / BEng); MSc/MEng advantageous.
• Strong C++ experience (non-embedded).
• Proficiency in Java or similar and scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Solid understanding of OO design and common software patterns.
• Experience with version control (Git, Subversion or Perforce).
• Experience using Agile methodologies or Jira.

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading South African engineering company that builds highly reliable, safety-critical and mission-critical systems for the defence and aerospace sectors. They are looking for a capable, motivated Software Engineer to join their Application Software team in Somerset West, Western Cape. You'll develop operator-facing software used in command and control (C2) and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) systems, working within a formal software development environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop application software, mainly operator-facing, mission-critical software for C2 and ISR systems.
• Own features from requirements through design, implementation and testing, across both front-end and back-end development.
• Research new domains and technologies well enough to understand user requirements and deliver features.
• Support production efforts related to application software.
• Produce project outputs, including design, testing, documentation, production and verification artefacts.
• Apply the company's engineering processes, plans and policies on each project.
• Take on minor support roles within the company when required.

Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (BSc) or Engineering (BSc Eng / BEng). A Master's degree (MSc / MEng) is advantageous.
• Strong C++ experience. Not embedded C++.
• Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages, such as Java.
• Proficiency in one or more scripting languages, such as Python, Bash or PowerShell.
• A sound understanding of object-oriented design and common software patterns.
• Experience collaborating through version control, such as Git, Subversion or Perforce.
• Experience working in a team using Agile methods or issue-tracking software such as Jira.
• 2–3 years of relevant industry or postgraduate experience is advantageous.
• Experience with modern C++ (C++11 onwards) is advantageous.
• Experience with markup and data formats such as XML, XSLT, XML Schema, JSON and YAML is advantageous.
• Learns quickly, solves problems well and works both independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
