Job description

DescriptionThe South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) is looking for a competent and proactive individual to support and enhance the skills of managers and other staff members within the organization in applying and utilizing Employee Relations (ER) policies, processes, and procedures in accordance with relevant labor legislation.

The incumbent of this position will establish and maintain effective Employee Relations (ER) function within the Human Resource Department at the SAMRC to ensure compliance with South African Labour and employment legislation and best practices.

The incumbent will lead negotiations between the organisation and employees, oversee HR compliance and risk management, and promote healthy workplace relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Compliance, HR Governance and Risk Management.
  • Co‑ordinating development and review of HR policies.
  • Collective bargaining and Recognition Agreement.
  • Active stakeholder engagement.
  • Training of managers and employees on employee relations processes.
  • Advising HR Business Partners on corrective and progressive discipline.
  • Advising and coordinating annual Wage Negotiations processes.
  • Advising on SAMRC restructuring processes & managing impact on employees.
  • Formulate and advise on the drafting, revision and application of the ER policy, procedures and employment related contracts.
  • Facilitate discussions with employees with the implementation of a medical boarding process.
Remuneration

R1,, per annum (cost to company).

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Employee Relations or related field.
  • 8 – 10 years Employee Relations related experience.
  • Solid working knowledge of the principles and practices of employee and labour relations.
  • In-depth knowledge and application of local labour and employment law and regulations.
  • Knowledge of CCMA and Labour Court processes.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and executing programmes that measurably impact positive employee relations.
  • Handling negotiations and consultations in a unionised environment.
  • Litigation skills.
  • Postgraduate degree in Labour / Employment Law / Postgraduate diploma in Employee Relations (Preferred).
