Role Purpose
Own the end-to-end creation, QA and delivery of on-brand Mailchimp campaigns. Blend hands‑on HTML / CSS for email, list and audience management, and a strong design eye to deliver reliable, measurable results.
Key Responsibilities
Campaign production
- Build emails and reusable templates in Mailchimp (Classic & New Builder).
- Code / adjust custom HTML / CSS for responsive behaviour and dark‑mode readiness.
- Create modular content blocks and maintain a component library with usage notes.
Audience & data management
- Maintain lists, tags, groups and segments with clear naming conventions.
- Set up and optimise journeys / automations (welcome, nurture, re‑engagement, event reminders).
- Manage imports / exports, de‑duplication, bounce handling and suppression lists; uphold data hygiene.
Quality assurance
- Own a rigorous pre‑send QA: links, images / alt text, subject & preview, merge tags, personalisation fallbacks.
- Test renders across major clients / devices; validate tracking / UTMs and send settings.
- Ensure accessibility (headings hierarchy, colour contrast, tap targets, semantic HTML where feasible).
Design & brand
- Translate brand guidelines into clean, scannable layouts with clear hierarchy and typography.
- Create / lightly edit assets (SVG / PNG / GIF) and compress for email size constraints.
- Partner with designers and copy to maintain consistency and elevate the craft.
Measurement & optimisation
- Define campaign objectives and success metrics; build Mailchimp reports and dashboards.
- Run A / B tests (subject, preview, timing, layout, CTA, personalisation) and document learnings.
- Feed insights into a rolling backlog to lift CTR / CTOR and conversions.
Compliance & governance
- Apply consent and preference best practice (POPIA / GDPR), footer compliance and suppression policies.
- Maintain an email QA checklist and release notes for every send.
Ways of working
- Manage a simple content calendar; communicate timelines and approvals.
- Coordinate with project team / compliance as needed; be calm and reliable under deadline.

- 3–5 years' hands‑on email production using Mailchimp (templates, journeys, segments, merge tags).
- Solid HTML / CSS for email (table layouts, inline styles, fallback fonts, dark‑mode tactics).
- Meticulous attention to detail and methodical QA; comfortable owning list hygiene at scale.
- Design literacy: layout, spacing, typography, image optimisation; basic Figma / Adobe skills.
- Understanding of deliverability (SPF / DKIM / DMARC basics, sender reputation, throttling).
- Competent with analytics and UTM tagging; able to set goals and report outcomes.
- Working knowledge of email accessibility guidelines.
Nice to Have
- Litmus or Email on Acid.
- MJML; simple templating (e.g., merge logic or basic Liquid / Handlebars).
- CSV / data wrangling; Google Sheets formulas; basic SQL.
- Zapier / webhooks to connect forms and CRMs.
Success Metrics (KPIs)
- List health: growth rate, active vs dormant ratio, bounce & spam‑complaint rates.
- Campaign performance: delivery rate, click‑through, CTOR, conversions.
- Quality: pre‑send defect rate, post‑send issue rate, SLA adherence.
- Velocity & reuse: time‑to‑send, % built from reusable modules, automation coverage.
- Compliance: zero critical breaches; unsubscribe rate within thresholds.
