Job summary

A leading engineering firm based in South Africa is looking for an experienced Electrical Supervisor with a 2.9.2 legal appointment. This role involves overseeing project controls, safety management, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. Candidates should have at least 8 years of high voltage power line experience and relevant qualifications. This is a full-time, 12-month contract position located in Kathu.

Qualifications

  • 8 years experience as an Electrical Supervisor with High Voltage power line experience.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor project scope time and cost with underlying processes.
  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of the HSEQ Management System.
  • Hold health and safety meetings and daily toolbox talks.
  • Keep all records safe and available for inspection.
  • Assist in conducting external audits.

Job description
Job Title

Electrical Supervisor (2.9.2 legal appointment)

Job Duties – General

The approved and signed scope of work and contracted to perform cover the aspect of project controls monitoring project scope time and cost with all underlying process applicable.

It should be noted that Wim does not have the required certifications to act as the 2.9.2.

Wim will be acting over all three areas as the 2.9.2 and that may occur due to distance that work may be delayed due to his span of responsibilities over the three areas.

It should be noted that Wim relies on lifts from vehicles that may have access to site to move between areas.

Where high risk work may be required in two areas his presence will be required on one of the two projects which may result in a delay.

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Management

Assist with implementation and maintenance of the HSEQ Management System which is based on the ISO 9001 ISO 14001 ISO 45001 and the Company’s HSE Standards.

Current implemented system will remain and Wim will still have access and utilize the operator who captures the information of contractors on the system.

Ensure appropriate information is made available for management reviews.

What information is required to be made available for management reviews.

Record Keeping

Keep all records safe and available for inspection.

All safety records will be maintained and secured with the current person responsible.

Meetings and Toolbox Talks

Hold health and safety meetings at regular intervals and provide the manager with minutes thereof.

The daily toolbox talks will have to be conducted by the skilled and experienced supervisors of the area.

External Audits

Assist in conducting external audits.

No previous external audits were conducted and not sure what the requirements are.

Document Management

Assist in co‑ordinating revisions, updating approval consultation and distribution of standard instructions, task procedures, codes of practice, rules, managerial instructions, risk assessments, exemptions, approvals and permissions.

Our understanding is that the safety department will remain responsible for the updating of documents.

Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment

You are required to assist and where appropriate to carry out baseline issue-based and continuous HIRAs.

Being the Project Controls Manager the technical expertise of this function will require skills and experience to ensure the risk assessment is correct.

Continuous HIRAs consist of for example pre‑use inspections on equipment and this regard the standard systems in place must be addition you are required to ensure that you and all employees reporting to you carry out mini‑risk assessments before tasks are carried out.

Wim will only be able to inspect what is captured as per the inspection book.

Your attention is drawn to the SIMRAC Guidelines regarding HIRAs which will be provided to you on request.

Wim has had no training in this.

Investigation

In addition your attention is drawn to the provisions of Section 11 MHSA which requires conducting an investigation in cooperation with the health and safety representative responsible for the workplace where an accident or incident has occurred.

Which area will Wim be responsible for and what incidents will he be part of investigating.

Training and Communication

While the primary responsibilities are placed on the Company to provide training you are integral to ensuring that the health and safety training and communication is in fact communicated to employees and that where appropriate employees are sent for retraining.

This will require daily support and management of the process for contractors to be onboarded. Implication is that the project work will be on hold for that period as the 2.9.2 have.
