Duties & Responsibilities
Design and Technical Support
- Review and optimize the electrical design drawings for energy storage projects (primary system, secondary system, control and protection, grounding, lighting, etc.).

- Ensure the design complies with relevant South African standards (such as SANS, NRS, Eskom Grid Code) and international specifications (IEC, IEEE).

- Perform electrical calculations (short‑circuit current, load calculation, cable selection, voltage drop, protection settings, etc.).

- Conduct technical reviews of design documents submitted by the client, consultant, and design institute.

Construction and Site Management
- Provide electrical technical guidance to the construction team and subcontractors, and resolve technical issues during construction.

- Review the construction process and installation methods of electrical equipment to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.

- Supervise key construction steps (high‑voltage connection, box‑type transformer/boost station installation, cable laying, battery compartment wiring, inverter grid connection, etc.).

- Participate in on‑site electrical quality inspections and acceptance inspections of concealed works.

Equipment and Materials Management
- Review and confirm technical specifications for major electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, protection devices, battery systems, inverters, UPS, SCADA systems, etc.).

- Participate in equipment FAT (factory acceptance testing), SAT (site acceptance testing), and commissioning tests.

- Track equipment arrival, inspection, and storage to ensure compliance with design.

Commissioning and Grid Connection
- Participate in the commissioning, functional testing, and grid connection testing of energy storage systems.

- Collaborate with system integrators to complete the commissioning of electrical protection, monitoring systems, and SCADA/EMS interfaces.

- Responsible for the identification and rectification of electrical defects during the commissioning process.

- Liaise with South African power grid companies (such as Eskom or municipal power companies) to ensure grid connection compliance.

Safety and Quality
- Ensure all electrical construction activities comply with the OHS Act and on‑site HSE requirements.

- Develop and implement electrical safety operating procedures and technical briefings.

- Participate in electrical quality inspections, rectifications, and final handover.
