Job summary

Smart4 Energy is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join a renewable energy environment focused on Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and grid-connected energy projects. The role covers design, verification and support across the project lifecycle.

You will prepare electrical designs, perform system studies, and develop specifications for equipment while ensuring compliance with South African electrical standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• 3-8+ years' experience in electrical engineering is preferred.
• Experience in renewable energy, power generation, utilities, EPC or infrastructure is desirable.
• Strong Solar PV and/or BESS experience is advantageous.
• ECSA registration or progression towards Pr Eng is advantageous.
• Experience with MV and LV electrical design.

Responsibilities

• Prepare electrical designs for Solar PV, BESS and hybrid energy projects.
• Design MV and LV electrical systems, including SLDs, protection schemes, cable schedules and equipment layouts.
• Conduct load flow, voltage drop, short circuit and protection coordination studies.
• Design plant interconnection and grid connection infrastructure.
• Develop technical specifications for electrical equipment and balance of plant.
• Support grid connection applications and utility submissions.
• Ensure compliance with NRS, SANS, Eskom, municipal and grid code requirements.
• Provide engineering support through procurement, construction and commissioning.
• Review contractor and supplier technical deliverables.
• Support FATs, SATs, site inspections and technical issue resolution.
• Provide technical input into tenders, proposals and project costing.

Requirements

Ideal Candidate

A technically strong Electrical Engineer with hands-on experience across Solar PV and/or BESS projects, with the ability to support projects from concept design through to procurement, construction and commissioning.

Strong experience in MV/LV systems, power system studies, protection, grid connection and South African electrical standards will be highly advantageous.
