JOB DESCRIPTION
As an Electrical Engineer, you will design, plan, and develop LV electrical systems, switchboards, MCCs, motor starters, transformers, and UPS solutions. You will contribute to electrical power and control system design while ensuring compliance with industry and NOV standards. The role includes producing electrical drawings, performing sizing calculations, and supporting manufacturing, FAT, and commissioning.
You’ll collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines to enhance the value of NOV’s products and services. As part of a global resource pool, your tasks may vary depending on project requirements and organizational priorities. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, review, and validate electrical distribution equipment, including LV DBs, LV MCCs, LV switchboards, MV/LV transformers, diesel generators, and UPS/battery backup systems.
- Design and review various types of motor starters such as MCCB feeders, DOL starters, VSDs, star–delta circuits, and soft starters.
- Familiar with industrial communication protocols including Modbus, Profibus, and Ethernet.
- Perform power cable calculations, cable sizing, and busbar sizing in accordance with relevant standards.
- Familiar with current transformers, voltage transformers, differential protection relays, air circuit breakers (ACBs), and molded case circuit breakers (MCCBs)
- Strong understanding of LV reticulation, including design of earthing and bonding system.
- Research, develop, and design Electrical and electronic interface circuitry for control of products.
- Work with customers (internal/external) and review project defining documents to understand project requirements.
- Create and/or design electrical drawings and documentation. (Typical; block diagram, termination diagram, electrical schematic, interconnect, cabling, and assembly drawings and BOMs.)
- Ensure electrical scope and content is defined during initial design processes.
- Provide electrical leadership in preparation, and ensure that deliverables projects are controlled with regard to scope, schedule, budget, performing appraisal, etc.
- Establish design criteria for deliverables using required codes and standards.
- Review contractual content to ensure technical and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure subsequent design changes are documented and transmitted as required to internal and external resources.
- Participate in design review.
- Provide manufacturing with technical assistance.
- Provide technical support during testing.
- Review and approve engineering documentation provided by external groups.
- Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
- Preferred 5 years of experience designing of LV MCCs, LV Switchboards, LV DBs and LV reticulation power systems.
- Relevant experience in Electrical power system, protection, earthing and bonding.
- You will have an education within Electrical / Instrumentation/ Mechatronics or experience
- Relevant experience within Instrumentation, Electrical, Mining Machines or Automotive may compensate where there is no formal qualification
- Practical experience with FATs or Commissioning of Equipment.
SKILLS
- LV system design (switchboards, MCCs, transformers, UPS).
- Motor starter design: DOL, VSDs, soft starters, star–delta.
- Cable and busbar sizing per industry standards.
- Knowledge of protection devices: CTs, VTs, ACBs, MCCBs, relays.
- Industrial protocols: Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet.
- Electrical drawings and schematics (AutoCAD preferred).
- Earthing, and bonding design.
- Experience with Ex/hazardous area equipment (advantageous)
