The team is based at the company's head office in the Tygervalley area of the Western Cape.

As a Linux Systems Engineer, you will develop, integrate, and maintain in-house and third-party solutions that promote a safe and spam-free hosting experience for our customers.

Requirements

• The ideal candidate will have a passion for high quality and standards, technology to serve operational and customer requirements, programming and open-source technologies, security (specifically web application security), anti-spam solutions, web application firewalls, optimal systems, and simple procedures.
• Experience working in an agile and self-organising team environment, sharing ideas, innovating, learning rapidly and independently.

Responsibilities

• In collaboration with the Product Owner and stakeholders, understand customer needs to deliver innovative, robust website security and anti-spam solutions.
• Build and design tooling to support and evolve our Trust & Safety team, e.g., dashboards, scripts, and automation of customer service processes.
• Trend monitoring, analysis, and development of mitigation strategies for spam and website vulnerabilities.
• Develop and maintain anti-spam and anti-malware technologies and strategies, website malware detection systems and signatures, monitoring strategies for website security issues and infrastructure.

Proficiency

• High proficiency in scripting languages, open-source databases like MySQL and SQLite, Linux system administration, software design and coding, malware attack handling, trend monitoring, and threat modeling.

Qualifications and Experience

• 5+ years of Linux system administration experience, with a track record in mission-critical environments.
• Focus on Linux performance, scalability, and security; understanding of virtualization and high-availability systems.
• Advantageous: experience with web application security, malware mitigation, Debian Linux, cloud infrastructure, software development, large-scale operations, security trends, web CMS systems like WordPress.
