Job description

Orion College is a private, assisted learning and remedial school in Randpark Ridge that caters to learners with diverse learning needs and abilities.

The school offers three educational streams and integrated therapeutic interventions from a multidisciplinary team.

Orion College is seeking to employ a full‑time Educational Psychologist from 1 January. This is a Level 1 position and the successful candidate will work in both the Primary and High Schools.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in educational psychology from a recognised university
  • Registration with the HPCSA by the start of January
  • Police clearance
Duties
  • Assessment – must have sufficient knowledge of the application of various assessment tools and be skilled at report writing
  • Therapeutic interventions – individual and group psychotherapy, play therapy
  • Case management and containment
Observations and monitoring of learners
  • Assisting in enrolment applications – reviewing application documentation, participating in parent intake meetings, delivering tours of the school
  • Attendance and contribution to multidisciplinary team meetings
Developing intervention plans for teachers and parents
  • Assistance with the application of GDE assessment accommodations and concessions
  • Liaison with parents and teachers
  • Prepare and deliver learner and staff workshops / training (when required)
  • Any other relevant duties required by the school
  • Assertive, creative and flexible
  • Good organisational skills and time management
  • Able to use own initiative, work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professionalism and a high standard of ethics – must be able to handle confidential matters ethically and with sensitivity
  • Previous experience within a remedial environment or working with learners with barriers will be advantageous
