The City Press editor leads a dynamic team of journalists who produce in-depth, exclusive and investigative journalism for the digital publication on News24 on a Sunday. The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist with a passion for storytelling, digital journalism and managing people.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead a functional, high-performing editorial team that delivers excellent journalism for News24 on a Sunday.
  • Liaise with the News24 editor-in-chief, as line manager, on a regular basis to align on editorial strategies and priorities.
  • Ensure all City Press' journalism adhere to the Press Code of South Africa and is of a high standard.
  • Cooperate closely with section editors to ensure City Press' Sunday package is of a high graphical and editorial standard.
  • Manage and oversee a small freelance budget.
  • Produce a monthly analytics report with insight of the month's content performance.
  • Identify, interview and appoint journalists when vacancies arise.
  • Determine and execute the City Press social media strategy in line with that of News24.
  • Conceptualise and execute a newsletter strategy for City Press in line with that of News24.
Minimum Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • At least 10 years' editorial experience in an established newsroom.
  • Newsroom management experience.
  • Experience of managing teams of journalists.
  • Thorough understanding and experience of digital workflows.
  • Thorough working knowledge of news production, media ethics and the media environment.
