Regional Contractor Management HSSE Lead

Main Purpose

The Regional Contractor Management HSSE Lead will lead and implement Puma Energy's Regional Contract Management Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) strategy, including management systems, programs, and training to mitigate risks, reduce environmental and community impact, and foster a positive HSSE culture.

This role is also responsible for providing tactical and operational Contractor HSSE advice and support to our country HSSE leaders, and delivering initiatives that continually improve our contractor culture and performance in line with the Puma Energy Global HSSE Vision and Regional HSSE Strategy.

Other Main Functions
  • Establishing and maintaining a HSSE Contractor Management approach across Puma Energy Africa Operations, including control effectiveness improvement programs.
  • Physical inspection programme, including outsourcing of requirements.
  • Development and maintenance of Contractor Risk Registers, including oversight and performance insights of high-risk operations and control effectiveness.
  • Contractor Management training for new starters and refreshers.
  • Review of contractual HSSE clauses for key suppliers and contractors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Development and maintenance of HSSE Contractor management processes, including reviewing, onboarding, coordinating, and monitoring various contractor types.
  • Implement and own HSSE Contractor Management processes across the region.
  • Collaborate with Operations to support contractor HSSE activities such as Risk Assessments, Incident Reports, and Improvement Programs.
  • Facilitate dialogue with Contractors on HSSE expectations and contract-specific requirements.
  • Analyze and report on trends for Contractor HSSE KPIs and programs.
  • Develop training and onboarding programs for Contractors.
  • Manage assurance programs to verify Contractor compliance with Puma Energy requirements.
  • Coordinate with Regional and Country Teams to facilitate Contractor meetings on HSSE issues.
  • Establish KPIs and metrics to provide insights and support risk-based decisions.
  • Participate in the Regional HSSE leadership team and collaborate with broader teams.
  • Develop and ensure high-risk operational controls and training modules.
  • Review and align contractual clauses and support tender and supplier reviews.
  • Support the implementation of systems like Intelex and manage the Contractor Management System.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of practical HSSE experience, ideally in Oil and Gas, Construction, Aviation, or other high-risk industries.
  • Understanding of HSSE legislation and commercial frameworks across jurisdictions.
  • Diploma in health, safety, or environment discipline; university degree preferred.
  • Fluent in English with strong communication skills.
  • Project management and incident investigation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HSSE digital platforms.
