Job description

The Management Accountant role functions to ensure the implementation and maintenance of efficient and effective financial systems and processes. The role is responsible for oversight and management of accounts and bookkeeping functions, cash flow controls, management accounts, statutory, compliance, and audit requirements for a portfolio of property and/or management companies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Preparation of journal entries (e.g., prepayments, accruals)
  2. Review and submission of monthly billings and invoicing
  3. Oversight and sign-off of monthly bank reconciliations (cash books)
  4. Review of creditor reconciliations
  5. Review of debtor and creditor age analysis
  6. Other reconciliations and detailed analyses
  7. Onboarding of new properties onto applicable accounting software (MDA / MRI, Xero, Dokka)
  8. Variance reporting with numbers and commentary (actuals, budget)
  9. Preparation and delivery of management account reports, including income statement, balance sheet per building, and all budget and variance reports across properties and services, timely (by the middle of the following month)
  10. Processing payments
  11. Regional treasury functions
  12. Implementing and overseeing internal control procedures
  13. Creating efficiencies through automation of processes and procedures
  14. Review of expense and cash book allocations (owner statements)
  15. Maintenance of monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  16. Year-end audit preparation
  17. Review of general ledger
  18. Budgeting and forecasting review
  19. Intercompany loan reconciliations
  20. Ad hoc reporting
  21. Property feasibilities and due diligence processes
  22. Maintaining and reviewing reporting tools (PowerBI)
  23. Liaising with finance providers on financial data

Requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Willing to work onsite in the office
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CIMA either completed or in progress advantageous)
  • Minimum 4 years of accounting experience (property experience advantageous)
  • Experience with municipal utility accounting and operational property transactions
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations)
  • Experience with property finance systems (e.g., MDA, MRI, Xero)
