Overview

Our client in the hardware retailer sector is looking for an E-Commerce Operations & Digital Marketing Manager on a contract duration for 6 months.

We are a well-established hardware retailer expanding into online retail for the first time. Our new online store built on OpenCart will offer customers access to our wide range of tools, hardware and building supplies.

We are looking for a hands-on, proactive E-Commerce Operations & Digital Marketing Manager to take ownership of our online store and help drive its success. This is a diverse, fast-paced role suited to someone who enjoys managing data, handling orders, engaging with customers and promoting products online while being comfortable in a hardware retail environment.

Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of the online store operations and drive its success.
  • Manage data handling and bulk product updates (e.g., pricing, descriptions).
  • Process orders and engage with customers to ensure a positive shopping experience.
  • Promote products online and optimize product visibility.
  • Collaborate in a hardware retail environment to align online and offline activities.
Skills & Experience

Essential Skills

  • Very strong Excel skills essential for bulk product management and price updates.
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms (OpenCart, WooCommerce, Shopify or similar).
  • Basic HTML skills for formatting product descriptions and page content.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving ability.

Advantageous Skills

  • Experience with Google Shopping, Facebook Marketplace and social media management.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics or other website tracking tools.
  • Customer service experience both online and in-store.
  • Basic image editing skills (Photoshop or similar).
  • Understanding of e-commerce best practices, SEO or digital marketing strategy.

Industry-Specific Advantageous Experience

  • Experience working with South African suppliers using platforms like RapidTrade or TradeCentre.
  • Familiarity with leading hardware and tool brands (e.g. Bosch, Makita, Ryobi, Stanley, Gedore, etc.).
  • Prior experience in a hardware store, building supply company or tool retailer will be an advantage.
