Job summary

Placements24, Durban-based manufacturer of heavy industrial machinery, seeks an experienced Industrial Equipment Repair Technician. This on-site role focuses on hands-on repair and preventive maintenance of complex equipment, diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, and implementing effective repair strategies.

You will work with plant engineers and production staff to minimize downtime, improve equipment efficiency, and uphold safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience in repairing industrial machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical schematics.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Welding, machining and fabrication experience is advantageous.
• Experience with electrical control systems and VFDs.
• Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with procedures.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed diagnostics on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Execute complex repair procedures, including welding, fabrication, and component replacement.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to implement equipment modifications.
• Ensure all repair work adheres to safety and quality standards.
• Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities and parts used.
• Assist in commissioning of new equipment and machinery.
• Train junior technicians on repair techniques and safety protocols.
