Job summary

A global trade facilitator is seeking a qualified driver trainer based in Alberton, Gauteng. The role involves assessing and training drivers, compiling reports, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Candidates must have a matric certificate, EC driver's license, and accreditation as an assessor. A strong understanding of industry regulations and good communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Up to 5 years’ experience as a professional driver and at least 5 years’ experience in driver training.
  • Good working knowledge of relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of RTMS requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and train drivers according to predefined work objectives.
  • Compile and submit driver training reports.
  • Conduct driver in-cab coaching and on-route assessments.
  • Evaluate driver performance and implement corrective actions.

Job Function

To assess and train drivers in alignment with predefined work objectives (as per agreed standard operating procedures).

Key Performance Areas

Outputs / Key Accountabilities:

  • Compile and submit driver training reports.
  • Deliver work activities according to set standards in order to satisfy customers.
  • Attend learning initiatives to improve work quality and enhance own skills.
  • Own and live up to the company values.
  • Execute own work according to set operating procedures service level agreements.
  • Execute work in line with governance and compliance processes.
  • Plan and organise own tasks to make sure that performance targets are met and standard operating procedures are adhered to (daily to 3 months).
  • Execute work activities effectively and efficiently in order to maximise financial performance.
  • Provide continuous feedback on task delivery to support decision making.
Driver Training
  • Evaluate and provide theoretical and practical training according to set standards as determined.
  • Identify training needs from incidents/ accidents and recommend necessary training requirements to meet required performance standards and retrain where necessary.
  • Conduct driver in-cab coaching and on route assessments.
  • Ensure drivers are capable and have the knowledge to complete all relevant paperwork correctly and in full.
  • Monitor diesel consumption and ensure drivers achieve the required standards for fuel consumption aligned with set targets.
  • Ensure compliance to customer site and safety standards.
  • Ensure drivers are trained to liaise with customers in an acceptable manner and according to company standards.
  • On the job training of new drivers and induction.
  • Annual continuation of training as per training matrix.
  • Remedial training.
Evaluation & Analysing Performance
  • Analyse all drivers’ diesel consumption.
  • Analyses of driver performance on DriveCam/ Mix Telematics/ Mix Vision and implementing appropriate corrective action.
  • Recruitment and employment of drivers, including the practical evaluation of driver applicants.
  • Record and evaluate results.
  • Plan and facilitate classroom training.
  • Plan and facilitate the periodic medical examination of drivers as and when required.
  • Assist Management with special tasks such as accident investigations and reporting of findings, giving expert testimony in disciplinary proceedings etc.
Administration
  • Development of training material and training aids.
  • Ensure training material is available for all training.
  • Ensure driver’s training records are up to date.
  • Ensure training material comply with TETA standards for accreditation.
  • Compile and maintain the necessary training records and documentation.
Qualifications Required
  • Matric certificate.
  • Driver's License Code EC.
  • Valid PrDP (Dangerous Goods).
  • Accreditation as an assessor and facilitator.
  • Advanced driving techniques.
Experience and Skills Required
  • Up to 5 years’ experience as a professional driver and at least 5 years’ experience in driver training.
  • Good Working knowledge of the Road Traffic Act, the Collective Agreement of the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry, the Skills Development Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of RTMS requirements.
  • Computer literacy and experience with MS Office.
