Job summary

Tiger Brands in Pretoria is seeking a Delivery/Van Assistant to support daily routes, deliver bread on time, and maintain accurate POD and cash handling. You will work with Sales Supervisors to ensure customer satisfaction and timely replenishment.

The role requires Matric, 2–3 years FMCG experience, and a valid Code and PDP. You will uphold hygiene, drive safely, and build strong relationships with traders.

Responsibilities

• Deliver bread on time and in full, according to schedules and volumes.
• Identify new outlets and notify Sales Representative as needed.
• Build and maintain relationships with general trade customers for retention.
• Oversee stock and money handling; ensure POD is obtained and cash is balanced daily.

Sales

• Achieve Sales targets

Safe and responsible use of the vehicle

• Comply with traffic laws and driving rules
• Drive safely and be courteous on the road
• Do not abuse company assets in any circumstances
• Report damages to the vehicle
• Conduct daily vehicle checks
• Report defects on a daily basis using the official checklist
• Ensure the vehicle cab is kept clean and hygienic

Sales

• Achieve Sales targets
• Identify potential new customers
• Identify new outlets and notify Sales Representative
• Conduct route rides with Sales Representatives as required
• Report missing or broken POS devices

Build excellent relations to ensure customer retention

• Build relationships with general trade customers
• Supply customers with relevant information
• Provide feedback on activities, perceptions and attitudes observed in the trade
• Build relationships with Receiving function at Top End customers
• Resolve issues with delays in delivery to Top End customers
• Report back on reason codes for returns

Oversee the performance of the Van Assistant

• Escalate any performance issues to Sales Supervisor
• Ensure self and Van Assistant adhere to hygiene and uniform requirements

On time delivery

• Adhere to departure times
• Notify Sales Supervisor of any delays
• Report for duty on time
• Identify opportunities in store and on route and advise Sales Representative accordingly
• Report any deviations by Merchandisers
• Notify Bakery if run out of bread on route

Account for stock and money

• Do stock check before departure from depot/bakery and sign off
• Ensure proper counts of stock and money per customer
• Hand out customer invoices and receive correct payment
• Ensure cash is stored in the safe at all times as per SOP
• Obtain Proof of Delivery (POD) as required
• Report any deviations and suspicious activity immediately
• Adhere to returns procedure
• Balance to zero every day
• Read and understand settlement sheet

Positive basket flow

• Keep account of basket flow per route
• Pick up basket per customer
• Report deviations
• Sign baskets in and out at gate and ensure accuracy thereof

Updated and accurate route information

• Report on trade activities (including competitor activity)
• Place orders as required in line with Bakery policy

Minimum Requirements

• Matric or equivalent
• 2-3 years FMCG experience
• Code and PDP
