We are seeking a Draughtsman to join our Manufacturing team and play a pivotal role in bringing client concepts to life. In this role, you will translate design requirements into accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings that serve as the foundation for high-quality, efficient production. Your technical expertise and attention to detail will help ensure that every product meets exact specifications, production standards, and customer expectations.

Purpose of the Position

The Draughtsman produces computer-aided drawings in both 2D and 3D formats according to client design requirements. These technical drawings act as blueprints for the production team to manufacture products accurately and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities: Design and Detailed Drawings
  • Create and modify detailed client drawings for products and sub-assemblies, including flat stages.
  • Design and draft manufacturing assembly jigs, welding jigs, production gauges, and other inspection aids.
  • Produce detailed production drawings and individual part drawings for manufacturing.
  • Draft flat patterns for punching.
  • Assist in the development of new product designs, ensuring designs are technically sound, feasible, and meet quality standards.
  • Record product material requirements (Bill of Materials) on drawings.
  • Report any drawing, design, or software-related issues to the Line Manager and Production Team.
  • Design and draw tooling, jigs, and other necessary parts as requested by Manufacturing or Production.
Sample Design and Quality Assurance
  • Collaborate with team leaders during the manufacturing of sample design parts.
  • Review and verify that all designs meet standard requirements; obtain approval from the Operations Manager.
  • Redesign and correct products that do not meet required standards.
  • Participate in production runs to monitor and ensure technical adherence.
  • Utilize advanced CAD software and technology to optimize setups and minimize or eliminate production rejects.
Trumpf and Plasma Programming
  • Program Trumpf and Plasma machines according to production needs.
  • Amend and document any drawing changes for re-punching on Trumpf.
  • Monitor CNC machine tool settings and tool maintenance.
  • Train CNC machine operators on programming and operation best practices.
Tooling
  • Design and produce detailed drawings of press tooling, including computerized simulations of tool operations.
  • Create and maintain technical drawings of all existing tooling.
Core Competencies
  • Strong working knowledge of conventional and CNC machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment with frequent project changes.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and following complex instructions and diagrams using company drafting standards.
  • Ability to conceptualize and translate design requests into accurate technical drawings.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail in computer-aided drafting.
  • Excellent organizational skills for filing, storing, and retrieving both manual and electronic drawings.
Minimum Requirements
  • Diploma or qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Draughting, or related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Experience with CNC programming (Trumpf and Plasma machines advantageous).
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
