The 3D Designer will work as an integral part of the design and engineering team to deliver layout drawings, 3D models, detailed schematics, and other water and multi-disciplinary design deliverables.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following tasks:
- Understand and prepare engineering design drawings, plans, profiles, sections, and details, including initial model and sheet setup (modeling and design deliverables in Civil 3D as directed).
- Apply established engineering principles and standards in the design and preparation of drawings.
- Prepare Revit and BIM models for plan production and coordination meetings.
- Generate infrastructure layouts and general arrangement drawings in Civil 3D using 2D & 3D models.
- Produce long sections, typical sections, and details of infrastructure.
- Ensure drawings and designs meet requirements and adhere to deadlines.
- Issue drawings for review, information, or construction.
- Collaborate and coordinate with other disciplines on design changes and model challenges utilizing Revit and other modeling programs.
- Assist in technically delivering Revit projects in the role of CAD and BIM coordination.
- Manipulate/translate various digital file formats to create usable CAD/Revit drawings.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts and terminology.
- Understand standard drafting and engineering practices and methods.
- Be familiar with CAD/BIM standards and software.
- Work independently to organize and prioritize demands, handle multiple complex tasks, meet deadlines, and follow through in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands.
Education, Language & Qualifications
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Grade 12)
- Appropriate Autodesk certificates (e.g., Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Revit)
- An N4/N5 Multi-Disciplinary Drawing Office Practice (MDDOP) National Certificate or a Certificate of Competency from a Member College of The South African Institute of Draughting is advantageous.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- 3 - 5 years' work experience
- Highly proficient with Civil 3D and Revit
- Civil 3D experience (compulsory)
- Revit experience, including setup and maintenance of jobs, files, families, and work sets
- Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and BIM360 (docs and design) is beneficial
- Successful project completion using Revit as a delivery tool (examples may be provided)
- Additional software experience beneficial: Navisworks, Infraworks, Plant 3D, SolidWorks
- Experience with work-shared models is advantageous
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (oral & written), including negotiation, influencing, and relationship-building skills
