At DHL Supply Chain South Africa we’re looking for a Distribution Centre Accountant.
This position involves the management of financial systems, procedures, and controls to provide accurate and reliable information, safeguarding assets, interpreting financial and operational information to facilitate appropriate action, implementing, monitoring, and controlling the budget, ensuring accurate and timely submission of monthly financial information, providing financial and commercial support, directing functions such as forecasting / budgeting, management accounting, and activity‑based accounting, appraising operating results, directing, coordinating, and planning work activities of the team, and managing resources to optimise customer service.
Key areas of responsibility include: reviewing the General Ledger to identify variations and take corrective action, identifying costs still required and raising journals, investigating costs in the GL that have been incorrectly posted by a third party, analysing account codes reports, reviewing weekly / monthly reports, creating and sending weekly FLASH reports, preparing monthly FLASH reports, reviewing the Monthly Management Report, creating weekly Management Packs, reviewing against the GL to ensure correct figures are reported, interacting with executives regarding commentary, reconciling balance sheet accounts to identify errors, reviewing income statement reconciliations in relation to cost analysis per cost centre per prime code, providing accurate information regarding cell‑phone reconciliations, ensuring stock loss valuations are correct, managing the stationary usage analysis, preparing Month‑end and International external packs, meeting and exceeding operational service levels, driving and developing team culture, ensuring compliance with statutory and company policies and procedures (Health and Safety, Employment Equity, Labor Relations, Legislative, Environmental Issues), monitoring compliance, managing human resources (staffing levels, competence, industrial relations, disciplinary actions), delivering quality control and KPI management, leading the admin team, fostering a secure, clean, and fair work environment, building morale, and ensuring SOP compliance.
Operating IT systems as required. Working in a physically demanding environment with the ability to meet deadlines and KPIs. Reviewing all balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and avoidance of unanticipated costs. Preparing half‑year and year‑end statutory reports for corporate submission, including VAT, Company Tax, Deferred Tax and regulatory reporting. Preparing annual budgets and development of management reporting to operations. Optimising working capital and cash flow management. Implementing and maintaining financial controls, developing strategic commercial opportunities, maintaining decision‑making with first‑class financial information, initial preparation of PRB documentation for contract acquisitions and CAPEX, managing the post‑approval process, coordinating budget and quarterly forecast processes, determining and implementing performance analyses and reporting processes, ensuring accuracy and integrity of the DHL GL, reviewing and clearing balance sheet reconciliation items, controlling transaction processing, ensuring compliance with Group and local deadlines, managing development and succession of financial personnel, providing direction and advice to senior management on risk, commercial contracts, business cases, and overall financial performance, ensuring compliance with local statutory accounting rules.
Act as a link between financial/administrative processes and operational functions, confirming and promoting awareness to staff on ISO and regulatory requirements associated with the QMS.
