About the Role

Our client, a rapidly growing and innovative pharmaceutical company, is seeking a visionary and results-driven Director of Pharmaceutical Operations to lead their entire operational infrastructure. This is a fully remote leadership position, offering the ultimate flexibility to manage operations from anywhere within South Africa. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of manufacturing, supply chain, quality control, and process engineering to ensure the efficient and compliant production of high-quality pharmaceutical products. This role demands strategic leadership, exceptional operational acumen, and a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry's regulatory landscape. You will drive operational excellence and scalability to support the company's ambitious growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and leadership for all pharmaceutical manufacturing, supply chain, and operational functions.
• Develop and implement operational strategies to optimize efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
• Ensure strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), regulatory requirements, and safety standards across all operations.
• Oversee the planning and execution of production schedules to meet market demand and product launch timelines.
• Manage the supply chain, including raw material procurement, inventory management, and logistics.
• Lead and mentor a team of operations managers, engineers, quality professionals, and other operational staff.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, implementing best practices and innovative solutions.
• Develop and manage operational budgets, ensuring financial targets are met.
• Oversee technology transfer, process validation, and equipment qualification activities.
• Ensure robust quality control systems are in place to maintain product integrity and compliance.
• Foster a strong safety culture and ensure all operational activities comply with health and safety regulations.
• Represent the company in operational matters with regulatory bodies, partners, and stakeholders.

Requirements

• A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical operations management, with a significant track record in leadership roles.
• Extensive knowledge of GMP, pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, quality systems, and supply chain management.
• Proven experience in leading large, complex operational teams and driving operational excellence.
• Strong strategic planning, financial management, and project management skills.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate and ensure compliance with global regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EMA, SAHPRA).
• Experience with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) is highly desirable.
• Ability to work effectively in a fully remote leadership capacity, managing distributed teams.
• Must be legally authorized to work remotely in South Africa.
