About the Role

Our client, a leader in innovative technology solutions, is seeking an accomplished Director of Engineering to oversee their dynamic engineering operations in Randburg, Gauteng . This pivotal executive role demands a visionary leader with a strong technical background and exceptional management capabilities. The Director will be responsible for guiding the engineering teams, driving technological innovation, and ensuring the successful development and delivery of cutting-edge products. This hybrid position offers a unique blend of strategic leadership and hands‑on engagement, requiring regular presence at our Randburg facilities while offering flexibility for remote work on certain days. Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic direction and leadership for all engineering activities, including software development, hardware design, and R&D. Build, manage, and mentor high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence. Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from concept and design to implementation, testing, and deployment. Establish and maintain engineering best practices, standards, and processes to ensure efficiency and quality. Collaborate closely with product management, marketing, and other departments to define product roadmaps and technical strategies. Manage engineering budgets, allocate resources effectively, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope. Drive technological innovation and research into new advancements relevant to the company's strategic goals. Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of all engineering solutions. Act as a key technical advisor to senior leadership and external partners. Uphold and promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the engineering department.

Requirements

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering leadership roles, with a proven track record of managing large, complex engineering projects and teams. Extensive experience in software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum) and system architecture. Strong understanding of hardware development processes and embedded systems (if applicable). Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire technical talent. Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities. Experience managing budgets and financial planning for engineering departments. Familiarity with the technology landscape in Gauteng is a plus. Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment, balancing remote and in-office responsibilities.
