Job Purpose and Summary

Summary Statement :

The Technician role exists to maintain service and repair material handling equipment systems and products either on company premises or at customer sites. The position ensures tasks are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner to meet customer and company requirements while maintaining accurate vehicle records.

Key Performance Areas : To excel in this role the appointed individual must be capable of performing the following duties to the required standards. Note that this list is not exhaustive and may be updated to address business needs:

1. Servicing and Maintenance :
   Perform maintenance on material handling equipment ensuring forklift serviceability meets specified standards and procedures.
   Deliver quality service and maintain equipment to ensure operational reliability.
2. Diagnosis and Troubleshooting :
   Conduct accurate diagnosis and troubleshooting in cases of equipment breakdown.
   Communicate necessary repairs to customers and supervisors promptly.
3. Record Maintenance :
   Update and maintain vehicle maintenance records and operational history.
   Ensure timely communication of relevant information for company records.
4. Customer Satisfaction :
   Provide excellent customer service in a polite and professional manner.
   Promote service and maintenance programs to enhance customer experience.
5. Communication :
   Ensure effective communication between self, workshop staff, and customers.
   Maintain clear and timely communication with the Field Service Team Leader and Controller.
6. Safety Compliance :
   Adhere to OHSACT regulations on company and client premises.
   Maintain a safe work environment by following all safety measures and verifying vehicle safety devices.
7. Knowledge and Skill Development :
   Stay updated on technical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
   Apply technical information effectively and utilize diagnostic equipment appropriately.

Requirements : The ideal candidate should meet the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

Education and Certification :
Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
Qualified Diesel and/or Petrol Mechanic with experience in forklifts or similar material handling equipment.
Alternatively, a Qualified Forklift Mechanic.

Experience :
Minimum of 3 years’ mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical experience related to forklifts.
General knowledge of auto-electrical systems including ignition, starting, charging, and illumination.

Skills :
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work efficiently under pressure.
Proficiency in interpreting schematics, diagrams, operational manuals, and technical specifications.
Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
