Diesel Mechanic job vacancy in Johannesburg.

The purpose of the Diesel Mechanic role is to ensure that all plant and other vehicles are fixed and maintained as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Repair, strip and assemble machine components
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting on machines
  • Hydraulics
  • Rebuilding of machines
  • Machine maintenance and repairs
  • Inspection and failure reports
  • Daily timesheet
  • Training and development of subordinates
  • Develop, modify, construct and install related equipment repaired for the safety operation of all engineering equipment
  • Identify spares requirement and order according to department procedure
  • Housekeeping and risk assessments
  • Workshop machine maintenance
  • Daily checks and service
  • Electrical diagnostics
  • Inspect brake system
  • Inspect steering systems
  • Raise vehicles using jacks and two-post car hoist
  • Routine maintenance (e.g.) changing oil and checking batteries
  • Test drive vehicles
  • Align wheels, tighten bolts and screws and attach system components
  • Electrical systems (e.g.) fuel injection and engine timing
  • Maintain records of each repaired vehicles

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

  • Trade Certificate as Diesel Mechanic or equivalent
  • Experience in hydraulic and pneumatic diagnostics and repairs
  • Performing minor and major services, stripping components inspect and repair
  • Practical experience of at least 5 years at a civil/construction/mining environment
  • Stable work experience with sound references
  • Valid drivers’ license (will be verified)
