Job Title: Diesel Generator Service Manager

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Diesel Generator Service Manager to lead and grow our service department. This critical role requires a combination of technical expertise, strong leadership, and business acumen. The successful candidate will oversee all service operations, manage a team of technicians, drive departmental growth, and ensure exceptional client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of service technicians.
  • Schedule work, monitor performance, and provide ongoing training and guidance.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for complex technical diagnostics (mechanical, electrical, and controller-related).
  • Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Service Operations Management
  • Oversee the daily operations of the factory workshop, ensuring timely and cost-effective service delivery.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for client assets.
  • Prepare accurate quotations for repairs, service contracts, and new service work.
  • Conduct quality control inspections and sign off on major jobs.
  • Client Relationship & Business Development
  • Act as the primary contact for key clients, building and nurturing strong relationships.
  • Conduct proactive site visits to assess client needs and satisfaction.
  • Identify and secure new service opportunities, contracts, and SLAs to grow the department.
  • Technical & Safety Compliance
  • Maintain expert knowledge of large diesel generators (Volvo, Scania, Perkins, and others).
  • Ensure full compliance with company policies and occupational health & safety regulations.
  • Manage the standby and call-out roster, serving as the main management contact for after-hours emergencies.
Requirements & Skills
  • Experience: Minimum 5–7 years in the diesel generator industry, with at least 3 years in a management/supervisory role.
  • Qualifications: A relevant trade qualification (Diesel Mechanic, Millwright, or similar) is an advantage.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong knowledge of large industrial diesel generators across multiple engine makes.
    • Proficient in electrical systems, fault-finding, and interpreting schematics.
    • Hands‑on experience with alternators, ATS units, and major controllers (Deep Sea Electronics, ComAp).
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop technical teams.
  • Commercial Skills: Strong business development and client management experience, with exposure to quoting and contract negotiations.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation abilities.
  • Other: Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel. Ability to manage after-hours standby and perform under pressure.
