Qualifications

️ Design, build, and operate the core infrastructure across on-prem and cloud
Ensure security, reliability, and scalability of all systems supporting our e-commerce platform
️ Automate workflows with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code principles
Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise applications, networks, and infrastructure
Collaborate with software engineers, QA, and specialist squads to enable seamless operations
Own incident response, root-cause analysis, and post-mortems
Hybrid in V&A Waterfront, Cape Town (2 days in-office)

Responsibilities:
  • Own design, implementation, and enhancement of on-prem and cloud infrastructure
  • Maintain high system availability, optimise latency, and ensure resilient networking
  • Safeguard systems via secrets management, access control, and container hardening
  • Provide observability through logging, metrics, tracing, and alerts
  • Drive CI/CD automation and consistent deployment workflows
  • Build internal tooling and self-service frameworks for engineering teams
  • Champion operational best practices: SLOs, error budgets, testing, disaster recovery.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in systems, infrastructure, or reliability engineering
  • Strong Linux administration skills and production Docker experience
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred, GCP/Azure acceptable)
  • Experience with HashiCorp stack (Nomad, Consul, Vault) or equivalent stack
  • Familiarity with PHP, Python, C++, or Rust workloads
  • Observability tools (Datadog, Grafana, Loki, Sentry)
  • Scripting & Terminal Fluency: Confident working on the command line, with practical experience writing automation scripts (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Databases & Caching: Hands-on operational experience with MySQL/MariaDB and Redis (management, backup/restore, replication, performance tuning, indexing).
  • Knowledge of networking concepts (DNS, HTTP, TLS, reverse proxies, load balancing)
  • Security-focused mindset with experience in secrets management and system hardening
  • Confident in incident management and problem-solving under pressure
  • Strong process orientation, documentation habits, and discipline
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid setup with at least two in-office days per week.
Nice to Haves:
  • Experience with HashiCorp stack (Nomad, Consul, Vault)
  • Familiarity with PHP, Python, C++, or Rust workloads
