Job Summary

Operations Analytics forms part of the broader Retail Operations team. We help Retail Operations improve how work is done by working with teams across the department to understand operational challenges, identify opportunities for improvement and design practical solutions that make our processes more efficient, effective and sustainable.

The team brings together a range of capabilities, including business analysis, data analytics, process engineering and automation. While we perform different roles and bring different areas of expertise, we are part of the same Retail Operations team and work towards the same purpose: delivering better outcomes for our clients and our business.

The Automation Team capability focuses on using technology to improve existing and new Retail Operations processes. This includes removing repetitive work, reducing operational risk, improving the employee experience and finding better ways for work to be performed.

Robotic Process Automation remains an important part of our technology landscape, but our solutions are not limited to RPA. We use a range of technologies and development approaches, including Tungsten Automation (Kofax) RPA, Python, SQL, APIs, web applications, scripting and emerging artificial intelligence technologies. We choose the technology and approach best suited to the problem we are trying to solve.

We are looking for a technically strong and highly motivated developer who enjoys solving real operational problems through technology. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across Operations Analytics and contribute across the full solution lifecycle, including understanding the problem, analysing requirements, designing solutions, development, testing, implementation, production support and continuous improvement.

This opportunity would suit either an exceptional graduate with strong technical ability and practical development experience, or an experienced developer who is able to contribute independently from an early stage.

Job Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, implement and maintain automation and software solutions that support Retail Operations.
• Develop solutions using technologies such as Tungsten Automation (Kofax) RPA, SQL, Python, APIs, scripting languages, web technologies and other appropriate tools.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of artificial intelligence solutions, including AI agents and generative AI-enabled workflows.
• Work with teams across Retail Operations to understand operational challenges, requirements and opportunities for improvement.
• Contribute across the full solution lifecycle, from initial problem identification and proof of concept through to production implementation, support and continuous improvement.
• Develop a strong understanding of Retail Operations products, processes, systems and data.
• Build reliable, maintainable and supportable solutions that meet appropriate development, security, governance and operational standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across applications, databases, integrations, automation platforms and production environments.
• Develop and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures and data-processing logic.
• Integrate solutions with internal systems through databases, APIs, user interfaces and other available integration methods.
• Produce appropriate technical documentation, support guides, process documentation and solution designs.
• Use source control and appropriate software-development practices to manage and maintain solutions.
• Conduct testing and peer reviews to ensure solutions are accurate, reliable and fit for purpose.
• Monitor existing solutions and identify opportunities to improve performance, stability, maintainability and business value.
• Research, experiment with and apply new technologies and automation techniques where they can add value to Retail Operations.
• Share technical knowledge within the team and contribute to building sustainable team capability.
• Assist with monthly bulk processes, operational reporting and rotating production-support responsibilities.
• Take ownership of solutions and contribute to a collaborative, innovative and delivery-focused team environment.

Skills, Competencies And Experience Required

• Strong technical aptitude and a genuine interest in software development, automation and artificial intelligence.
• Programming experience in at least one language, such as Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript or a similar language.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• A good understanding of software-development principles, including variables, data structures, conditional logic, error handling, debugging and reusable code.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with the ability to develop logical, practical and maintainable solutions.
• Ability and willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly.

Qualifications

A relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering or a related technical discipline.

A strong academic record will be advantageous, particularly for graduate applicants.

Relevant practical projects, internships or professional software-development experience will be advantageous.

Exceptional graduate applicants with limited formal work experience will be considered where they can demonstrate strong technical ability, problem-solving skills and practical development experience.

Applicants with relevant professional experience in software development, automation, systems development or a related technical field will also be considered.

Specific technical certifications are not required for the role. Relevant certifications may be advantageous where they demonstrate applicable technical knowledge or experience.
