FirstRand Life Assurance Ltd is seeking an experienced RPG developer to design, code, test and document new and enhanced IBM i applications. Translate specifications into scalable designs and deliver high-quality code for medium to large-scale systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of RPG development on IBM i.
• Strong knowledge of RPG IV, RPGLE, Free-Format RPG, and DDS.
• Proficient with DB2 for i and SQL on the IBM i platform.
• Solid understanding of the IBM i operating system and architecture.
• Experience with the software development life cycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Familiarity with source-control / change-management tools (e.g. ARCAD).
• Experience using VS Code.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, code, test, and implement complex enhancements and new modules in RPG (ILE / Free-Format).
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve existing applications on the IBM i-platform.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Business Analysts, QA, Infrastructure) to gather and understand system requirements.
• Mentor developers and provide technical leadership.
• Document technical specifications and system changes.
• Support users and resolve production issues in a timely manner.
• Contribute to modernization initiatives including web services (REST/SOAP), APIs, and integration with modern platforms.
