Job summary

Recruitpro Solutions is seeking a Design Engineer with a structural/mechanical background to join its African engineering team. The role focuses on concept and detailed design of structures and conveyors using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Ansys and Rocky, while supporting sales with technically sound bid proposals.

You will manage projects from estimation through to design, with travel across Africa. A PrEng registration and mining/materials handling exposure are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• PrEng registration is non negotiable.
• Experience in a projects environment is essential.
• Advanced SolidWorks 3D CAD and AutoCAD skills are essential, including SolidWorks File/Data Management.
• Experience with Ansys (FEA) and Rocky (DEM).
• Experience in conveyor design and knowledge of conveyor design codes.
• Mining and materials handling background is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Concept and detailed design and evaluation of structures, conveyors and related equipment using 2D and 3D CAD software.
• Provide technical support to the sales team so that bid proposals are technically correct and commercially viable
• Manage major and minor engineering projects from estimation to contract negotiation and design
• Research feasibility, design, operation and performance of mechanical systems
• Investigate mechanical failures and maintenance at mine sites in Africa
• Produce fabrication drawings and BOMs from sketches and client briefs
• Plan, schedule, coordinate, monitor and cost-control assigned projects
• Engage and negotiate with sub-vendors throughout the project
• Monitor compliance with codes, QA/QC policies, standards and specifications
• Liaise with clients to interpret specifications and requirements

Our client is a global leader in the design, manufacture and supply of mineral processing solutions for the mining, quarrying and recycling industries. They have more than 40 years of experience and a global team of over 500 professionals. They are looking for a Design Engineer with a structural background to join their African engineering department to support continued growth into the African market.

Key Responsibilities

• Concept and detailed design and evaluation of structures, conveyors and related equipment using 2D and 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, DraftSight, AutoCAD, Ansys, Rocky)
• Provide technical support to the sales team so that bid proposals are technically correct and commercially viable
• Manage major and minor engineering projects, from initial estimation and tender submission through to contract negotiation and design
• Research the feasibility, design, operation and performance of mechanical systems
• Investigate mechanical failures and maintenance problems at mine sites in South Africa and the rest of Africa
• Produce fabrication drawings and bills of materials (BOMs) from sketches, existing drawings and client briefs
• Plan, schedule, coordinate, monitor and cost-control assigned projects
• Engage and negotiate with sub-vendors throughout the project
• Monitor compliance with codes, QA/QC policies, standards and specifications
• Liaise with clients to interpret specifications and requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• PrEng registration - non negotiable
• Proven experience in a projects environment
• Advanced SolidWorks 3D CAD and AutoCAD skills (essential), including SolidWorks File and Data Management
• Experience with Ansys (FEA) and Rocky (DEM)
• Experience in conveyor design (typically 0-200m) and knowledge of conveyor design codes
• Background in mining and materials handling (run-of-mine crushing, sizing, screening) is highly desirable
• Structural engineering background preferred
• Familiar with manufacturing methods and design for manufacturability and assembly
• Analogous and parametric cost estimating
• Strong technical report writing and presentation skills
• MS Office proficiency
• Clean criminal record
• Valid driver's licence with a clean abstract
• Willing to travel
