Duties & Responsibilities

• Greet and prepare patients for dental treatment and ensure their comfort throughout procedures.
• Record patient medical and dental histories accurately.
• Provide pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by the dentist.
• Offer reassurance and maintain a calm, professional demeanor with patients of all ages.
• Assist the dentist during dental procedures by handing instruments, materials, and suctioning as needed.
• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize dental instruments and equipment according to OSHA and CDC guidelines.
• Maintain strict infection control standards throughout the operatory.
• Ensure all treatment rooms are properly stocked and ready for procedures.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• A formal qualification in Dental Assisting (e.g., National Certificate in Dental Assisting, Higher Certificate in Dental Assisting) from an accredited institution.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Dental Assistant.
• A National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
• Strong knowledge of dental instruments, materials, chair-side assistance, sterilisation / infection control protocols.
• Good communication skills (verbal & written), able to interact with patients, dentists, and the rest of the team.
• Basic computer literacy (for patient records, scheduling, dental software).
• Professional demeanour, ethical conduct, ability to maintain patient confidentiality and high infection-control standards.
