Role Overview

The Dental Assistant will support the dentist and oral healthcare team by preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing instruments, assisting during procedures, and ensuring patient comfort. This role is critical to maintaining the smooth operation of the practice and upholding high clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain clinical treatment areas according to infection control protocols.
  • Assist the dentist chairside during dental procedures, ensuring efficiency and patient comfort.
  • Sterilize, disinfect, and organize dental instruments and materials.
  • Take and develop dental X-rays as required.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure confidentiality.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative instructions to patients.
  • Order, monitor, and manage stock of dental supplies.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and serviced according to schedule.
  • Support the dentist in emergency situations.
  • Deliver a professional and empathetic patient experience.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Dental Assistant in a private practice (not government clinics).
  • Registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) .
  • CPD (Continuing Professional Development) points up to date.
  • Knowledge of dental instruments, materials, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of infection control and sterilization procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Professional appearance and patient-centered approach.
  • Willingness to work 6 days a week , including Saturdays.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with dental practice management software (e.g., Exact, Dent soft, or similar).
  • Knowledge of billing and medical aid claims processes.
  • CPR and first aid certification.
