Job summary

The President Hotel in Cape Town is seeking a skilled Commis Chef to join our professional hotel kitchen. You will assist with food preparation, support the Chef de Partie, and ensure consistent flavour, quality and presentation throughout service.

You will train and supervise Commis Chefs and kitchen assistants, manage stock and hygiene, and contribute ideas for new dishes to continually improve our offerings. This role offers a dynamic team environment and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role within a hotel or reputable restaurant.
• Ability to guide and train Commis Chefs and kitchen assistants.
• Strong time management and organisational skills.
• Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
• Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistent taste and presentation.
• Collaborative team player.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation and cooking according to established recipes and presentation standards.
• Support the Chef de Partie with the daily operation of your assigned section.
• Maintain consistent flavour, quality and presentation throughout service.
• Help train and supervise Commis Chefs and kitchen assistants.
• Monitor stock levels, assist with supply orders and ensure freshness while minimising waste.
• Maintain a clean, organised section and follow hygiene and safety procedures.
• Contribute ideas for new dishes and improvements to existing recipes.
• Work closely with the kitchen team to maintain efficient service.
• Resolve challenges within your section promptly and support a positive working environment.
