Job summary

Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Stikland, Cape Town has an opportunity for a DC Van Assistant to join the team. The role focuses on achieving operational excellence within the Dis-Chem Warehouse and assisting the driver with loading, off-loading and delivering goods to customers.

Your main duties include ensuring products are delivered to the right store or customer on time, understanding and supporting the routing system, and maintaining an organized loading/unloading process.

Qualifications

• Matric with English and Mathematics is required.
• 2 years relevant experience in distribution, logistics or supply chain.
• Computer literacy – MS Office.
• Advantageous: supply-chain or logistics diploma or degree; knowledge of Word/Excel/Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the right products get delivered to the right store/customer at the right time.
• Assist in understanding the routing system.
• Assist in developing and maintaining an organized loading and off-loading system.
• Adhere to loading/unloading policies and procedures.
• Verify items on delivery logs/trip sheets to ensure pallets/boxes are delivered.
• Ensure vehicle is loaded/unloaded per delivery log and procedures.
• Check and return stock during collections/store returns; sign and hand over to Dispatch.
• Submit accurate delivery logs/trip reports on time and flag discrepancies.
• Re-pack stock left in the vehicle after delivery to prevent damage.
• Adhere to Dis-Chem policies and SOPs; report accidents/incidents; follow health and safety rules.

The main purpose of this role will be to achieve operational excellence, within the Dis-Chem Warehouse. Assist the driver in the loading and offloading of the delivery vehicle, and the delivery of goods to the correct customer.

Minimum Requirements

• 2 Years relevant experience, in a Distribution, Logistics or Supply Chain Environment
• Computer Literacy - MS Office

Job Description

• Ensure the right products get delivered to the right store/customer at the right time.
• Assist in understanding the routing system
• Assist in developing and maintaining an organized and efficient loading and off-loading system.
• Adhere to store and/or warehouse loading and unloading policies and procedures.
• Verify all items listed on the DLS`s (Delivery Log Sheets) / trip sheets, to ensure that pallets and boxes get loaded and delivered.
• Ensure the vehicle is loaded and unloaded, as per the delivery log sheet and company procedures.
• Ensure that all collections/store returns/Inter-branches are correctly checked, signed for and returned to the Dispatch receiving area.
• Ensure accurate DLS`s / trip reports are handed in on time, at end of the day and inform your supervisor on all discrepancies / issues as you are aware of them.
• Ensure that after completion of delivery the stock left in the vehicle is repacked to prevent boxes from falling and damaging the stock.
• Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Report on all accidents and incidents involving drivers or company equipment.
• Adhere to Health and Safety rules and regulations.

Competencies

• Knowledge of Distribution Centre, logistics and supply chain operations. Have knowledge of the business measures and targets,directly related to own role
• English –Read, write and speak.
• Communicate proactively in order to build co-operative relationships with internal customers

Special conditions of employment

• South African Citizen
• MIE, clear criminal and credit
• Driver’s license and/or own reliable transport
• Be able to adapt to working hours according to business needs
• Be able to work any shift i.e. day, night, weekends, holidays and overtime as per business and operational requirements
• Must be willing to be rotated to where needed and must be willing to perform any other functions within the department, should the need arise
