Job summary

CSIR’s Data Intensive Research Initiative of South Africa (DIRISA) invites you to join an internship in Pretoria focused on machine learning, data analysis, and software development to support South Africa’s cyberinfrastructure and socio‑economic development.

As part of the internship, you will collect, analyze, and visualize data, apply ML algorithms, contribute to software projects, and use Python, Linux scripting, and web frameworks for prototyping.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, CS, IT or Engineering required.
• Honours degree or certifications in Data Science advantageous.
• Proficiency in Python, Linux, and data visualization tools.
• Knowledge of ML algorithms and software development.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

• Data Science & Analytics: Collect, analyze, and visualize data to derive insights.
• Apply machine learning algorithms to solve real-world problems.
• Software Development: Contribute to DIRISA’s data-related software projects.
• Use Python, Linux scripting, and web frameworks for prototyping.
• Assist with the DIRISA Datathon Challenge and Coding School.
• Update training materials and mentor students.
• Research: Publish findings and attend conferences/symposiums.
