Main Purpose
As a Data Modeler, you will be responsible for designing and implementing conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support WFS's cloud-native architecture. You will work cross-functionally with data engineers, analysts, and product teams to translate business requirements into scalable data structures, ensuring performance, consistency, and compliance across the data ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Implement models across AWS services (Redshift, RDS, S3, Glue, DynamoDB).
- Establish and enforce data modelling standards, naming conventions, and metadata practices.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate needs into efficient data structures.
- Optimize data models for performance, scalability, and cost‑efficiency in the cloud.
- Ensure data integrity, lineage, and governance through modelling best practices.
- Support secure, compliant, and well‑documented data architecture design.
- Participate in data integration and transformation efforts across systems.
- Maintain and update ER diagrams, data dictionaries, and related documentation.
Key Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related.
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience in data modelling and architecture.
- Strong command of AWS data services: Redshift, RDS, S3, Glue, Athena, DynamoDB.
- Proficient in SQL and data modelling tools (ER/Studio, ERwin, dbt, etc.).
- Experience with relational, dimensional, and NoSQL modelling.
- Understanding of streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis).
- Experience with data warehouse and Lakehouse architectures.
- Familiar with Agile methodologies and cross‑functional team collaboration.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to simplify complex data concepts for diverse audiences.
- Proactive, collaborative, and solution‑oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands‑on experience with Confluent Cloud and Kafka.
- Understanding of data governance frameworks and cataloguing tools.
- Exposure to CI/CD, Terraform, and DataOps pipelines.
- AWS certification (e.g., Data Analytics or Solutions Architect) is a plus.
