Job description
Main Purpose

As a Data Modeler, you will be responsible for designing and implementing conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support WFS's cloud-native architecture. You will work cross-functionally with data engineers, analysts, and product teams to translate business requirements into scalable data structures, ensuring performance, consistency, and compliance across the data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Implement models across AWS services (Redshift, RDS, S3, Glue, DynamoDB).
  • Establish and enforce data modelling standards, naming conventions, and metadata practices.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate needs into efficient data structures.
  • Optimize data models for performance, scalability, and cost‑efficiency in the cloud.
  • Ensure data integrity, lineage, and governance through modelling best practices.
  • Support secure, compliant, and well‑documented data architecture design.
  • Participate in data integration and transformation efforts across systems.
  • Maintain and update ER diagrams, data dictionaries, and related documentation.
Key Competencies
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience in data modelling and architecture.
  • Strong command of AWS data services: Redshift, RDS, S3, Glue, Athena, DynamoDB.
  • Proficient in SQL and data modelling tools (ER/Studio, ERwin, dbt, etc.).
  • Experience with relational, dimensional, and NoSQL modelling.
  • Understanding of streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis).
  • Experience with data warehouse and Lakehouse architectures.
  • Familiar with Agile methodologies and cross‑functional team collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex data concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and solution‑oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands‑on experience with Confluent Cloud and Kafka.
  • Understanding of data governance frameworks and cataloguing tools.
  • Exposure to CI/CD, Terraform, and DataOps pipelines.
  • AWS certification (e.g., Data Analytics or Solutions Architect) is a plus.
