Job Summary
The Senior Data Management Analyst designs, builds, and maintains robust infrastructure for data storage, processing, and retrieval. This role is pivotal in developing scalable data pipelines that move data from diverse source systems to data warehouses and other processing environments. The analyst collaborates across teams to ensure data quality, security, and accessibility, enabling data-driven decision‑making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture
- Lead the design and optimization of data collection mechanisms.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure architectural integrity and data accuracy.
Data Management
- Manage and enhance core components of the data management system.
- Ensure data governance and lifecycle management practices are followed.
Business Requirements Identification
- Conduct interviews, workshops, and workflow analysis to gather and document business requirements.
- Translate user needs into technical specifications and data models.
Database Installation & Testing
- Install, configure, and validate complex databases and associated tools.
- Ensure database solutions meet performance and compliance standards.
Infrastructure & Network Development
- Design medium‑complexity storage and network environments.
- Provide third‑line support and escalation for infrastructure‑related issues.
Information Security
- Implement and monitor data security protocols including encryption and firewall configurations.
- Collaborate with security teams to address vulnerabilities and incidents.
Documentation
- Develop and maintain high‑quality technical and user documentation.
- Ensure documentation supports knowledge transfer and operational continuity.
Technical Recommendations
- Evaluate and propose enhancements to data platforms and supporting infrastructure.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and recommend adoption where beneficial.
Process Analysis
- Document "as is" and "to be" processes to support transformation initiatives.
- Identify gaps and recommend improvements for data workflows.
Operational Compliance
- Monitor team adherence to organizational policies and regulatory standards.
- Escalate non‑compliance issues and support remediation efforts.
Data Software Development
- Enhance existing data applications and develop new solutions aligned with business needs.
- Apply best practices in ETL, data modeling, and integration.
Data Software Maintenance
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex software defects.
- Ensure applications remain stable, secure, and performant.
Data Software Roadmap
- Contribute to the strategic roadmap for data software development.
- Align development priorities with business objectives and stakeholder feedback.
Design & Conceptualization
- Create prototypes and design concepts for digital data products and services.
- Collaborate with UX/UI teams to ensure user‑centric design.
Preferred Skills & Tools
- SQL: Advanced querying, optimization, and data manipulation
- Power BI: Dashboard creation, data visualization, and report automation
- ETL Tools: Informatica, Talend, or equivalent
- Cloud Platforms: Oracle Cloud, AWS, Azure (advantageous)
- Data Warehousing: Experience with Snowflake, Redshift, or similar
- Security & Compliance: Familiarity with GDPR, POPIA, and ISO standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or infrastructure roles
- Proven track record in managing large‑scale data environments and cross‑functional projects
