Job summary

Oliver Bernard, in partnership with a forward-thinking business in Cape Town, is looking for an Intermediate Data Engineer to join the data team. You will build services in Python and help migrate from on-prem to the cloud, with exposure to AWS and modern data stacks.

You'll collaborate with the tech lead, shape architecture, and grow towards a Senior Data Engineer position as the team expands, with a hybrid model requiring 2 days in office (Tue and Thu).

Oliver Bernard have partnered with an established, forward-thinking business looking to hire an ambitious Intermediate Data Engineer to join its growing data team in Cape Town.

This is an opportunity for an engineer who wants to go beyond maintaining existing pipelines and play a genuine role in shaping modern data infrastructure.

The opportunity:

• Work across Python, AWS, Kubernetes and FastAPI.
• Contribute to a major migration from on-premise infrastructure to the cloud.
• Build and maintain data services using modern engineering practices.
• Work with MS SQL, PostgreSQL and Snowflake.
• Collaborate closely with the technical lead and influence architectural decisions.
• Grow towards a Senior Data Engineer position, with opportunities to mentor junior engineers as the team expands.

• Strong Python development experience, particularly building services rather than just scripts.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS.
