Job summary

Samaha Consulting is seeking a senior data engineering professional in Johannesburg to design, build and operationalise reusable data products for analytics, reporting and governance.

You will implement ETL pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, and ADLS Gen2, with strong SQL and data modelling skills. The role emphasizes CI/CD, monitoring and robust data pipelines within an enterprise data platform.

Qualifications

• Strong data engineering and ETL experience building data products for analytics and governance.
• Proven ability to design, build and operationalise reusable data products for analytics, reporting and controls.
• Excellent SQL skills including T-SQL, stored procedures and optimisation.
• Hands-on integration with REST APIs including authentication, pagination and error handling.
• Experience with data modelling methods such as Data Vault 2.0 and Kimball dimensional modeling.
• Experience building and maintaining Azure Analysis Services models (tabular and multidimensional).
• Familiar with source control and CI/CD tooling (Git, Azure DevOps).
• Knowledge of deployment pipelines and IaC concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and operationalise data products for trusted analytics and governance.

• Implement resilient data integration with REST APIs and error handling.
• Model data using Data Vault 2.0 and Kimball techniques for analytics platforms.

• Strong data engineering, ETL, integration and data product development experience using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Fabric, Synapse Analytics and ADLS Gen2.
• Proven ability to design, build and operationalise reusable data products that provide trusted, governed and consumable data for analytics, reporting, controls and downstream platform use cases.
• Excellent SQL skills, including T-SQL, stored procedures, functions and optimisation.
• Extensive experience with SQL Server and SSIS.
• Hands-on experience integrating with REST APIs, including authentication, pagination, error handling and performance optimisation.
• Experience building resilient ETL, orchestration and scheduled reporting automation.
• Strong knowledge of data modelling methodologies including Data Vault 2.0 and dimensional (Kimball) modelling.
• Experience building and maintaining Azure Analysis Services models (tabular and multidimensional).
• Strong non-functional design skills: monitoring, alerting, reconciliation, resilience, evidence capture and performance tuning.
• Experience using source control (preferably Git) and CI/CD tooling such as Azure DevOps.
• Understanding and experience of deployment pipelines and infrastructure-as-code concepts.
