Job summary

Zensar Technologies in Sandton, Johannesburg is seeking an experienced Azure Data Engineer to design, build, and optimise modern data solutions that help the business make smarter, data-driven decisions. The role requires 7+ years total experience with 3–4 years as Azure Data Engineer, strong SQL/T-SQL, Python for ETL, and hands-on Azure data services such as ADF, Databricks, Synapse, and ADLS Gen2.

You will work with stakeholders to deliver scalable pipelines and governance.

Qualifications

• 7+ years total experience, including 3–4 years as an Azure Data Engineer.
• Excellent data analysis and exploration skills using T-SQL.
• Strong SQL programming with stored procedures and functions.
• Proficiency in Python for ETL and data wrangling, especially with Databricks.
• Experience writing automated tests for data pipelines.
• Knowledge of data warehouse modelling: Kimball, dimensional, Data Vault 2.0.
• Experience with Azure data services: ADF, Databricks, Synapse, ADLS Gen2.
• Experience building robust, scalable ETL processes.
• Exposure to Azure Data products and Microsoft Fabric; Azure DevOps.
• Awareness of data governance tools like Azure Purview.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

• 7+ years’ total experience, including at least 3 to 4 years of expert-level experience as an Azure Data Engineer.
• Excellent data analysis and exploration skills using T-SQL.
• Strong SQL programming capability, including stored procedures and functions.
• Proficiency in Python for ETL development and data wrangling, particularly within Databricks.
• Experience writing automated tests for data pipelines.
• Knowledge and hands-on experience with data warehouse modelling methodologies, including Kimball, dimensional modelling, and Data Vault 2.0.
• Experience across Azure data services, including one or more of the following: Azure Data Factory (ADF), Databricks, Synapse Analytics, and ADLS Gen2.
• Experience building robust, scalable, and high-performing ETL processes.
• Exposure to Azure Data products and Microsoft Fabric.
• Experience using source control and Azure DevOps (ADO).
• Awareness of data governance tools and practices, such as Azure Purview.
• Understanding and experience of deployment pipelines.
