Part-time permanent post, starting January 2026

United Herzlia Schools is a highly successful, independent, community Jewish Day School in Cape Town.

This person will be part of the Counselling and Learning Support team in our SEED (Supporting Emotional and Educational Development) Department. The Pre-Primary Counsellor will be required to work across 2 Pre-Primary Campuses – Alon Ashel Pre-Primary (Sea Point) and Gan Aviv Pre-Primary (Gardens) Pre-Primary. Working hours for this position are preferably Monday to Friday (until 14h00).

The successful candidate will:
  • Be a qualified, registered counselling psychologist, educational psychologist or social worker, with a minimum of two years pre-primary school experience.
  • Have a minimum of two years’ experience in working with children between 18 months and 7 years of age and have a solid understanding of this specific developmental phase.
  • Recognise childhood presenting problems and be able to assist in managing the impact thereof on learning, as well as on social and emotional development in the classroom.
  • Be able to implement behaviour management programs.
  • Promote and drive social-emotional programs in the classroom.
  • Support colleagues and parents in promoting the development of each child holistically.
  • Be able to create, manage and integrate supportive counselling interventions.
  • Have knowledge of inclusive and supportive education policy and practice.
  • Have excellent administrative skills.
  • Be part of a multi-disciplinary professional counselling and academic support team.
  • Have a driver’s licence and own transport.
