Job summary

FNB Life in Johannesburg is seeking a Senior Corporate Actuarial Specialist III to own valuation activities and provide leadership to a team of actuaries. You will deliver complex analyses, challenge results, and turn insights into business decisions for senior management.

You will guide the team in capital and balance sheet management, present to governance forums, and drive automation and process improvements across actuarial workstreams.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in actuarial science.
  • FASSA qualification (or IFA equivalent).
  • A minimum of 5 years Actuarial experience within Life Insurance, Financial services or Actuarial Consulting.
  • Experience within life valuations will be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery and review of SAM, Embedded Value and actuarial basis-setting activities.
  • Coach, develop and provide day-to-day guidance to a team of aspiring actuaries.
  • Perform detailed technical analysis of balance sheets with insights into key drivers and trends.
  • Review actuarial results, models, methodologies and processes for accuracy and consistency.
  • Provide expert actuarial input into capital management and strategic decision-making.
  • Present movements in solvency, embedded value and experience outcomes to senior management.
  • Drive continuous improvement in actuarial models, reporting processes, and analytics.
  • Support governance, model governance and audit requirements with robust documentation.

Job description

To autonomously handle data preparation and conduct basic to intermediate analyses, while executing complex analyses under supervision. Managing independent projects, providing mentorship to junior colleagues, and effectively communicating with stakeholders, including delivering presentations to management committees and executive teams.

This is a senior technical role within FNB Life, reporting to the Head of Corporate Actuarial. You will take ownership of key valuation and experience activities while providing leadership and technical direction to a team of aspiring actuaries.

The role is highly hands-on and suited to someone who enjoys being close to the detail, challenging results, solving complex actuarial problems and turning analysis into meaningful business insight.
