Job Description

Location: Athlone, Cape Town (some travel required; valid driver's license and personal vehicle needed)

Employment type: 18-month contract

Commencement Date: 1 July 2025

Role Overview

We're seeking a passionate Social Worker to develop and execute holistic psychosocial support approaches for parents, caregivers, and community workers. This role will create and deliver services that improve parenting practices, strengthen parent-child relationships, increase child safety awareness, and ultimately set children on positive life trajectories free from violence.

Roles and Responsibilities
  1. Develop a comprehensive suite of psychosocial support services for parents, caregivers, and community workers
  2. Proactively engage and recruit parents/community workers to participate in support services
  3. Provide responsive, individualized support to parents/community workers facing challenges
  4. Establish and coordinate effective referral partnerships with relevant organizations
  5. Manage data collection, documentation, and reporting with precision
  6. Continuously improve systems and processes based on insights
  7. Develop and share meaningful insights about parent needs and service effectiveness
  8. Support broader organizational activities as needed
Qualifications and Requirements

Qualifications and experience:

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with the SACSSP (or related qualification)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working as a social worker
  • Additional 2 years' community development experience preferred
  • Direct experience working with families with young children (0-6 years), facilitating parent support groups or educational workshops using collaborative, participatory methods
  • Demonstrated understanding of early childhood development milestones, parents, and families
  • Established professional network within social service organizations, government departments, and/or community resources in Cape Town
  • Excellence in administration and meticulous data management

  • Advanced computer literacy (beyond basic Microsoft Office proficiency)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Self-motivation and internal drive to work independently
  • Critical thinking with ability to identify and solve problems autonomously
  • Growth mindset with curiosity and willingness to ask questions when needed
  • Facilitation skills that foster inclusive participation and deep listening
  • Ability to manage diverse responsibilities while maintaining quality
  • Fluency in English and isiXhosa (Afrikaans preferred)
