Job summary

A security services company in Midrand is looking for a Surveillance Operator to manage 24/7 camera and alarm monitoring. Responsibilities include incident management, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures, and effective communication with operational teams and clients. Ideal candidates should have a Matric qualification, PSIRA accreditation, and strong technical skills in surveillance systems.

Qualifications

  • Monitor CCTV and response to alarms 24/7.
  • Record and report incidents according to SOPs.

Job description
Job Purpose

To provide a 24 / 7 camera- and alarm surveillance on sites, tracking, mobile tracking, call centre, incident management and operational support for critical services that support the operations of the company and to ensure that all matters are addressed in a prompt, efficient, and professional manner.

Education and Experience
  • Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF level 4).
  • PSIRA registered (minimum Grade C).
  • Computer literate.
  • Exceptional telephone etiquette and communication skills.
  • Technical background of cameras and alarm systems will be highly beneficial.
  • Advanced surveillance body language will be highly beneficial.
  • Proven experience with two-way radios would be beneficial.
  • Must be able to read incident risk behaviour and perform profiling activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting
  • Record all incidents in the Occurrence Book (OB) with full details as prescribed in the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Do a proper hand over at the end of each shift in the Occurrence Book (OB) as per the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure that weekly reports are completed and submitted to the relevant personnel in time.
  • Ensure that monthly reports are completed and submitted to the relevant personnel in time.
  • Ensure that the following information is included:
  • Sites that were not secured.
  • Alarms and cameras activated.
  • False alarms.
  • True / positive alarms and outcome thereof.
  • Telephonic and email reported incidents.
  • Inform the relevant parties of any discrepancies; follow up actions taken and the progress thereof.
Monitoring and Response
  • All monitoring and tracking of alarms and cameras should always be done according to the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Communicate with operational personnel to ensure that they comply with procedure.
  • Monitor movement on CCTV cameras for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Monitor sites and ensure that operational personnel are notified if a site is not secured / locked.
  • Evaluate movement on camera and activate response team if suspicious activity is detected.
  • Ensure that the relevant and closest response team is dispatched by monitoring and tracking company vehicle movement.
  • Identify priority issues and escalate them to management if needed.
  • Monitor, manage, and control the operational systems.
  • Inform management, clients and operational task teams about emergency, arrange for backup with local authorities if needed, and keep them updated with the progress.
General
  • Liaise with clients, management, and colleagues to ensure smooth running of all operations.
  • Screen and direct calls to relevant colleagues.
  • Receive incidents from clients and inform the task teams to respond to the scene.
Health and Safety
  • Equipment should only be used for the sole purpose that they are intended for, within the health and safety regulations thereof and only by the people who have received the proper training, therefore.
  • If any hazard of any kind is noted, it must be reported to the SHEQ Manager immediately for remedial action to be taken.
  • Be responsible for your own health and safety as well as the health and safety of those around you.
  • Adhere to the regulations on the usage of consumables, equipment and clothing as well as the maintenance thereof.
Quality
  • Staff member must always adhere to company Quality Manual, Policies and Procedures of the company.
  • Staff member / Department must ensure that their objectives are met and discussed continually giving the ISO department updates on their progress.
  • Measurement, analysis, and improvement of the QMS through activities such as updating policies, procedures and forms relating to their department / branch, internal audits and corrective and preventive action.

  • Employees will be required to undergo training that is deemed necessary to raise the standard of service delivery and / or to comply with the requirements of the position.
