Amazon Deutschland Transport GmbH is seeking a Construction Manager to lead planning, design and construction for new fulfillment centers and expansions across Europe. You will oversee engineering, scheduling, and contract management with vendors and internal teams.

Qualifying candidates have a proven track record in project management, experience with EU markets, and fluency in German and English at C1 level. MRICS/RIBA or Chartered Engineer credentials are a plus.

Qualifications

  • Experience in project management from design phase through implementation and operation.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Civil Engineering, Architecture (or country equivalent).
  • Project management, construction or engineering experience with new builds and the enhancement of existing warehouses/logistics buildings.
  • Construction market experience in one or more EU countries.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction engineering, planning, and design for Amazon Fulfillment Centers and expansion projects.
  • Provide project support on new fulfillment network buildings and capacity within European Fulfillment Centers.
  • Undertake construction engineering design on new and remodel projects.
  • Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analyses to define design requirements.
  • Audit facilities and document procedures to evaluate infrastructure, safety and security.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and ensure contracts are fit for purpose and SLA compliant.
  • Provide overall site management and coordination of subcontractors.
  • Support due diligence evaluations of new opportunities.
  • Ensure contracted resources deliver work on time and with quality; address under-performance.
  • Audit contractors' skills and ensure compliance for deployment.
  • Inform contractors of projected changes in resource demand.
  • Establish and operate information systems for scheduling and recording of contract work.
  • Support contractors’ work to achieve higher performance.

The successful candidate will be a key part of the operations team and will be responsible for project managing new Amazon Fulfillment Centers planning, design and construction.

The successful candidate will be a key part of the operations team and will be responsible for project managing new Amazon Fulfillment Centers planning, design and construction. This will include the extension of existing facilities and any new sites. The Construction Manager (m/w/d) will play an integral role in the development and implementation of the EU network infrastructure. This role will analyze and evaluate different facility scenarios and build-out designs. In addition, this candidate has to support the standardization of the technical and facility related processes and systems. This opportunity combines construction engineering, planning, project management, facilities management, and contract management. It requires a person who can show proven ability in the planning and design, and project management / control of new and the enhancement of existing facility buildings.

Key job responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing construction engineering, planning, and design for Amazon Fulfillment (Distribution) Centers and other new or expansion projects
  • Responsible for project support on new fulfillment network buildings and additional capacity requirements within existing European Fulfillment Centers
  • Undertake construction engineering design on new and remodel projects
  • Prepare reports, specifications, technical analysis to fully define the design requirements, equipment and services required
  • Survey facilities, develop and document a procedures to audit the facility, provide evaluations and analysis, and recommend solutions to facility infrastructure, safety and security problems involving facilities and people
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and present formal documentation for approval when required
  • Ensure that contracts are fit for purpose, cost effective and incorporate appropriate Service Level Agreements
  • Provide overall site management, coordination, planning, specification of business proposals and coordination of subcontractors
  • Facilitate and team with others on due diligence evaluation of new opportunities
  • Ensure that contracted resources deliver work to meet duration and quality targets, addressing and ensuring the correction of under-performance issues
  • Audit contractors to check that the skills and competences of contract labor are appropriate to need, and they are fit to undertake the work on which they will be deployed
  • Inform contractors of projected changes in resource or work demand so that they can take appropriate action
  • Establish and operate the information systems necessary for effective scheduling and recording of contract work
  • Support contractors’ work and help them to achieve higher performance levels.

The successful candidate will be a key part of the REI (Retrofits, Expansions and Initiatives) design and construction team. This will include the extension of existing facilities upgrading the existing network. The Construction Manager will play an integral role in the development and implementation of the EU network infrastructure. This role will analyze and evaluate different facility scenarios and build-out designs. In addition, this candidate has to support the standardization of the technical and facility related processes and systems.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in project management from design phase through implementation and operation
  • Speak, write, and read fluently in German and English at C1 level or above
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Civil Engineering, Architecture (or country equivalent)
  • Project management, construction or engineering experience with experience managing both new builds and the enhancement of existing warehouses/logistics buildings
  • Construction market experience in one or more EU countries is key asset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience of Six Sigma/ Lean analytical techniques
  • Experience negotiating construction, procurement and labor contracts in EU
  • Experience managing construction quality systems
  • MRICS / RIBA qualified, or Country equivalent
  • Chartered Engineer or Country equivalent
  • Experience in managing cool chains, refrigeration equipment and installations, temperature-controlled environments
  • Additional language skills (French, German, Polish, Arabic, Portuguese, Turkish, Chinese (Mandarin), Afrikaans and Zulu ) are beneficial for cross-regional project coordination across EMEA
