About the Role

Construction Health & Safety Officer (SACPCMP) — Civil Engineering Projects

Location: South Africa (Gauteng-based)

Employment: Permanent (or long-term project-based)

Salary: R18,000 – R26,000 per month, negotiable based on experience & certifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and update project-specific HSE Plans, method statements, and emergency response plans.
  • Lead HIRA / task risk assessments, toolbox talks, inductions, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Maintain the Construction Health & Safety File and legal registers; coordinate internal and external audits.
  • Conduct incident / accident investigations and implement corrective / preventative actions.
  • Liaise with the Employer's Agent / Resident Engineer, contractors, and stakeholders; compile weekly / monthly HSE reports.
  • Drive behavioural safety and continuous improvement (ISO alignment beneficial).
Minimum Requirements

National Diploma in Safety Management / Environmental Health / Environmental Science / Environmental Management (or equivalent).

  • One or more of: SAMTRAC / SHEMTRAC / SHEOMTRAC / MESHTRAC / NEBOSH / Safety Officers Course (NQF 5+).
  • Registered with SACPCMP in the Construction Health & Safety sector (CHSO / CHSM).
  • Minimum 5 completed civil engineering projects served as the appointed Safety Officer.
  • Valid driver's licence; willingness to travel to multiple sites.
Nice to Have
  • Fall Protection Planner, Incident Investigation, First Aid, Fire Fighting, Legal Liability.
  • ISO implementation exposure; strong MS Office (Excel / Word) and reporting skills.
