Company Description: BICS Engineering and Supply is a leading construction company implementing construction work in the General Building, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Sectors. Role Description: The Estimator plays a critical role in our business development and project acquisition process. This individual will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for tender submissions. A key part of this role involves collaborating with the senior estimating and project management teams to develop comprehensive technical responses that clearly articulate our methodology, value proposition, and compliance with tender requirements.
The role is based in Centurion.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimating
- Analyse tender documents, drawings, specifications, and other documentation to understand project scope and requirements.
- Perform quantity take-offs and material calculations using digital take-off software and manual methods.
- Solicit, analyse, and compare quotations from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
- Assist in the development of detailed cost estimates, including materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Prepare and organise cost data and historical information for use in future estimates.
- Participate in site visits and pre-tender meetings to gather essential information.
- Technical Tender Response
- Assist in the preparation and writing of the technical proposal section of tenders.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop project methodologies, construction schedules, and phasing plans for inclusion in the tender.
- Draft responses to technical questions, ensuring they are clear, compliant, and persuasive.
- Pile and organise all required supporting documents, such as company profiles, project summaries, CVs of key personnel, and safety plans.
- Ensure the final tender submission is complete, professionally presented, and submitted before the deadline.
- Administration & Coordination
- Maintain and update the tender register and tracking log.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in post-tender interviews and debriefs as required.
- Maintain an organised database of estimating data, templates, and past project information.
Qualifications and Experience
- A diploma or a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a construction estimating role.
- Proven experience working on tender submissions for public works in civil, mechanical and electrical engineering projects.
- Experience in writing and assembling technical proposals is highly desirable.
