Company Compliance Manager

Aon South Africa is recruiting a Compliance Manager based, on a hybrid basis, from our Head Office in Sandton. The role of the Company Compliance Manager is to be the registered compliance officer on the regulatory licenses held with the FSCA and ensure adherence to the license requirements.

What the day will look like
  • Lead a team of compliance officers.
  • Work with Aon’s global law and compliance division to ensure adherence to policy and procedures.
  • Run all compliance related functions, which includes monitoring, training and advising the business and different Aon South Africa subsidiaries and Aon Re (reinsurance).
  • Manage compliance regulatory and reputational risks through implementation of relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the business with advice and support on data privacy aspects relevant to the business.
  • Provide input in the development and implementation of compliance risk management plans for applicable legislation.
  • Keep compliance policies, risk management plans, assessments up to date.
  • Manage and support the procedures and controls to mitigate compliance risk.
  • Grow and develop a compliance culture and create an awareness of compliance through interaction and training.
  • Review legislation applicable to the business – including but not limited to the Insurance Act, the Medical Schemes Act, the Pension Funds Act, POPI, FICA and FAIS.
  • Communicate regulatory changes to the business and support and facilitate the implementation of regulatory changes and internal control measurements throughout the company.
  • Advise on and implement controls and procedures that need to be followed to sufficiently manage and/or mitigate identified risks.
  • Approve the planning and management of the monitoring programme and training plan.
  • Review compliance monitoring and reports conducted by the Compliance Team.
  • Make recommendations to the business on how compliance can be improved.
  • Conduct compliance training in respect of regulatory requirements, internal procedures and policies, including Aon Global policies.
  • Provide timely feedback for compilation and submission of FSCA and FAIS compliance reports and regulatory queries.
  • Attend to company global compliance requirements as requested by the EMEA and global Compliance Department.
  • Lead and implement ad‑hoc projects relevant to the compliance function.
  • Support the business by providing professionally researched compliance opinions and advice.
  • Support the risk and operational functions with regulatory aspects of POPIA.
  • Provide training on compliance and data privacy aspects as relevant to the business and work closely with the Risk and Operations team on data privacy matters.
Qualifications
  • Be in possession of Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Have a Legal Qualification (LLB or similar) and be an admitted attorney.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Compliance Management is required.
  • Preferably be registered as a Category I and IV representative with the FSCA in terms of the FAIS Act.
  • Qualification and/or experience with data privacy legislation as applicable to intermediaries.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of and experience in, understanding and applying legislation to operations.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the financial services industry, which includes insurance and intermediary services.
  • Computer literate in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, OFAC and the South African anti‑bribery and corruption legislation will be an added advantage.
  • Extensive knowledge of the South African and international short‑term insurance markets, reinsurance and/or medical and pension funds.
  • Strategic knowledge of industry best practices.

Experience
  • Have 6–8 years’ compliance experience in a legal and/or compliance function, preferably in a financial, insurance or intermediary institution.
  • Experience with regulators (FSCA and Information Regulator).
  • Have compliance experience in respect of short‑term insurance products.
  • Working experience in a multi‑national environment would be an advantage.
  • POPIA – good working knowledge.
  • GDPR experience would be an advantage.
