Platform Engineer Level 2 – Cloud Platforms team (South Africa)

The Cloud Platforms team is a group of highly skilled professionals dedicated to advancing Games Global's cloud computing capabilities.

The team leads and facilitates the adoption of cloud technologies and practices across the organization.

As a Platform Engineer, you will focus on ensuring the security of cloud-based infrastructures and applications, implementing Shift Left security practices and embedding security into Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.

Your responsibilities include assessing, implementing, and managing security controls to protect cloud environments from the earliest stages of development, leveraging automation and orchestration techniques inherent to IaC practices.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the implementation of Shift Left security practices, integrating security into the earliest stages of the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with development teams to embed security controls—code scanning, vulnerability assessment, and secure coding practices—into CI/CD pipelines and IaC workflows.
  • Conduct security assessments of IaC templates and configurations to identify vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and security risks; perform static code analysis and automated security scans.
  • Implement security controls and measures within IaC scripts and configurations to protect cloud resources (IAM policies, encryption, network security rules, access controls).
  • Monitor IaC deployments for security incidents and respond promptly to alerts and breaches; develop incident response procedures for IaC environments.
  • Develop automation solutions for security tasks and processes within IaC pipelines using tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager.
  • Ensure IaC templates and deployments comply with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with compliance teams for audits, assessments, and reviews specific to IaC security.
  • Provide security awareness training and guidance to development and DevOps teams on integrating security into the development process and IaC workflows.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of security configurations, policies, procedures, and incident response activities; generate reports on Shift Left security and IaC security metrics, compliance status, and incident trends.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in Cloud Security Engineering with strong focus on IaC, Shift Left, and incident response.
  • Knowledge of security principles, practices, and technologies: network security, encryption, identity, IAM, and security monitoring.
  • Experience implementing and managing security controls in cloud environments (IAM policies, firewall rules, encryption keys, security groups).
  • Proficiency with security monitoring and incident response tools (SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint detection and response).
  • Solid understanding of IaC principles and practical experience with Terraform.
  • Strong familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, AWS CodePipeline).
